03 July – 07 July 2017

The team have had a productive week at the WRMH HQ, with a new competition being launched, a maths conference, updates to our CPD courses and lots of training being delivered across various schools for our new schemes of learning.

Beth was busy running a Fractions, Decimals and Percentages course today – delegates had a great time discovering the best ways to introduce and explain the concepts to students. The Maths Hub team also spent some time making some exciting updates to the content for our popular CPD training courses. For further information regarding the wide range of CPD topics we offer, please contact us.

Paul delivered a Calculating with Fractions course at a local school today – the delegates enjoyed learning how concepts such as adding and subtracting with fractions can be taught in an engaging and meaningful way for students. Stephanie was busy presenting a Questioning and Variation twilight course on Tuesday. These sessions are excellent for helping teachers to build on their questioning skills, which leads to a deeper understanding of topics for students. To find out more, click here.

Caroline enjoyed attending the national Maths Hub Forum over Tuesday and Wednesday. The event involved Maths Hub leads from across the UK meeting up to collaborate and discussing plans for upcoming terms – Caroline came back feeling inspired, with lots of great ideas for the WRMH! Stephen and Kelsey also had a fantastic couple of days, delivering CPA (Concrete Pictorial Abstract) courses, as well as training based around our new and updated schemes of learning – delegates had a lot of fun getting to try out concrete manipulatives, and finding out how they can implement our schemes for the next term! We also received some excellent feedback from those attending – take a look at some of the photos from Stephen’s sessions:

Tony was excited to welcome Dr Helen Drury (Mathematics Mastery) and Joshua Perry (Ark Schools) for a partnership meeting at the Maths Hub this week. An exciting collaboration is in the works – further details on our plans will be announced soon! Here’s Tony with Helen and Joshua:

In other news, the ‘Boss of the North’ and ‘Boss of the South’ competitions are now live! The competition (running in partnership with Mangahigh) remains very popular, with another fantastic response in terms of school registrations. A few prizes have already been given out in the forms of medals and vouchers, with many more still to come. There are also competitive challenges for teachers to complete, such as creating an eye catching leader board for the highest-achieving students in each school (see example below). The WRMH team are particularly enjoying all the great photos being shared of students engaging with maths! Take a look:
