26 June – 30 June 2017

26 June – 30 June 2017

The team have had a very productive week at the WRMH HQ, with a new competition being launched, a maths conference, updates to our CPD courses and lots of training being delivered across various schools for our new schemes of learning.

Monday

The team spent some time on Monday developing one of our CPD programmes – teaching with variation and depth. Our CPD training is an excellent way of developing a deeper understanding of concepts, and discovering how to implement these effectively in the classroom. It also provides staff with inspiration and practical ideas they can use. To find out more about our CPD training, please contact us. Stephanie was also busy sending out information booklets for schools who are planning to complete the WRMH trail from our recent kidscom event! The resources for this can be found by clicking here.

Tuesday

Today was a particularly exciting day for the Maths Hub team, as we announced the ‘Boss of the North’ competition! This will be running from 5 – 14 July. The ‘Boss of the North’ competition week (in partnership with Mangahigh) will see primary and secondary schools from across the North of England go head to head in order to be crowned the ‘Boss of the North’ and win some great prizes, ranging from Amazon vouchers to gold medals for students who do well. To join us for this fun-filled maths competition, or find out more information, please click here.

Wednesday

Wednesday was also an eventful day, with the Great North Maths Hub conference taking place in Newcastle. Jess from the WRMH had a great time speaking at the event, where she highlighted the importance of securing understanding of maths rather than simply teaching students tricks and shortcuts. She received lots of praise from the delegates at the end of her presentation – here are some photos from the inspiring event:

Thursday

Stephanie and Jennifer attended a Maths Conference today in Kent – they had a fantastic time introducing delegates to the powerful approach of Bar Modelling! They also had some brilliant responses from delegates regarding their presentation – see photos from the event below:

In other news, Beth, Kelsey and Stephen have all been busy visiting schools this week to deliver special CPD training based around our new and improved schemes of learning, to explain how the resources can be used effectively as part of the curriculum. Here are a few photos from Stephen’s sessions throughout the week, based in Oldham and Wakefield – take a look:
